Glasshouse experiments were carried out to study the influence of 60Co isotope irradiation of 6 varieties of red clover seeds in 3 dosages (50,000 r, 100,000 r, 150,000 r) and NEU (nitrosoethylurea) in 3 concentrations (0.011 percent, 0.035 percent, 0.046 percent) with respect to the growth and development of the juvenile plants. In both mutagens the emergence in 10 days from sowing was evaluated along with the plant height, degree of development inhibition, and survival percentage after 4 weeks. Increasing NEU concentrations resulted in retardation of all parameters evaluated. The effects of 60Co irradiations were most obvious in the percentage of surviving plants at 100,000 r and in plant height and development inhibition at 150,000 r. Irradiation had the stimulating influence on the emergence. Various reactions of seedlings in the range of studied varieties were found. They were more evident after treatment with different NEU concentrations, and less when applying various rates of 60Co irradiation.
