[Automatic control of agricultural equipment]
1992

Automatic and very accurate guidance of row-type seedbed preparators, nutrient applicators, drilling or planting machines, hoeing implements and spraying equipment can reduce input of both energy and nutrients, water and agrochemicals, as contribute to the protection of the environment and increase product quality. Stationary laser technology is used to guide implements in an automatic way over the field to carry outcrop growing actions in surface to less than one third of the traditional. The system is applicable in row type crops only, like sugarbeet, potatoes, corn and most vegetables. Increased efficacy of alternative weed control by mechanical means and nutriment of crop rows only are the arguments for this research. Inputs on herbicide and nutrients were decreased by 60 % and 25 % respectively at the 1991 trials in sugarbeet, resulting in a yield of 98,1 % of the traditional growing method.
