Geographical variation in monoterpene composition of foliar oleoresin in Swedish populations of Picea abies
1992
Paule, L. (University of Forestry and Wood Technology, Zvolen (CSFR)) | Yazdani, R.
The geographical variation of relative proportions of monoterpenes in folear oleoresin was studied in 15 Swedish populations of Norway spruce originating from latitudes ranging between 56 deg and 67 deg N. The relative proportions of all monoterpenes vary significantly between populations. Significant correlations were found between modified latitude and the length of vegetation period and four monoterpene proportions. Several monoterpenes (e.g. hexanal, myrcene, limonene and 2 hexanal isomer) show clinal variation. The variance component due to differences between populations in transformed relative proportions ranged from 9% to 63%. The remainder was likely due to intrapopulation variation. The proportion of correct classification of individuals into groups (populations) based on discriminant analysis ranged from 18% to 80% (mean 55%) in individual populations.
