Invading weeds impair the growth of Industrial Forest Plantations. The weed flora of several 2 years old industrial plantations established by the seed technology center in Banjarbaru (South Kalimantan) was inventoried viz. Swietenia macrophylla, Acacia crassicarpa, A. leptocarpa, A. mangium and Eucalyptus urophylla. Collections were made from December 1988 to January 1989 and the species of herbs, shrubs and climbers found were identified and enumerated with brief notes of the kind and intensity of the damage they provoked. The weed flora of five forest plantation consisted of : fourteen, 9, 8, 9 and 17 weed species belonging to 13, 8, 7, 8, 16 generas and 8, 6, 5, 7 and 11 plant families respectively were listed of which Imperata cylindrica, Clibadium surinamense, Merremia peltata and M. umbellata were the most damaging. Severe infestation of climbers could completely cover and deform crop trees, inhibiting their growth and degrading the wood quality eventually. To evaluate their ecological role the alien vegetation in each plantation type was analyzed using 20 square sample plots of 1 m2 to determine the density, frequency, dominance, importance value and index of similarity of the weed species concerned.
