This report presents the results of a socioeconomic survey of the Likoma-Chizumulu Artisanal Fisheries Development Project. The information gathered was intended to provide a body-of empirical knowledge about the structure and organization of small scale fisheries on the two islands in addition to serving as a basis for monitoring project activities and its impact on different households on the islands. While nearly all of the islanders are dependent on fishing for their livelihood, trading is also an important source of income, especially as fish stocks appear to be declining or perhaps migrating elsewhere. The future success, of fisheries on the islands lies in strengthening of the local level management capacity
