Effect of soil salinity on the pattern of nutrient uptake by susceptible and tolerant varieties of wheat

A field study was conducted during the Rabi season of 1981-82 and 1982-83 to study the effect of graded levels of soil salinity (ECe 4.2, 8.1, 11.4, 15.2 and 18.1 dS/m) on the pattern of nutrient uptake by susceptible (Raj 911) and tolerant (Kharchia 65) variety of wheat. P and K content of grain and straw decreased while that of N, Ca and Na increased with increasing level of salinity. The magnitude of decrease or increase in the above nutrients was more in susceptible variety than that of tolerant one. Tolerant variety (Kharchia 65) accumulated higher quantity of N, K, P and Ca and restricted the uptake of Na as compared to susceptible variety (Raj 911)

[E' stato condotto uno studio in campo durante le stagioni Rabi del 1981-82 e 1982-83 per accertare l'effetto di livelli graduali di salinita' del suolo (ECe 4.2, 8.1, 11.4, 15.2 e 18.1 dS/m) sulle modalita' di assorbimento di nutrienti da parte della varieta' di grano suscettibile (Raj 911) e tollerante (Kharchia 65). I contenuti di P e K della granella e della paglia diminuivano mentre quelli di N, Ca e Na crescevano con l'aumento del livello di salinita'. La dimensione della diminuzione e dell'aumento nei nutrienti sopra citati e' stata maggiore nella varieta' suscettibile che in quella tollerante. La varieta' tollerante (Kharchia 65) ha accumulato una quantita' piu' elevata di N, P, K e Ca e ha diminuito l'assorbimento di Na se paragonato alla varieta' suscettibile (Raj 911)]
