Dry matter and nutrient composition of Catharanthus roseus G. Don as affected by saline water [in India]

An experimant was conducted at Raja Balwant Singh College, Research Farm Bichpuri, Agra (India) during winter season of 1986-87, to study the performance of Catharanthus roseus, irrigated with saline waters ranging in EC 2.4 to 20 dS/m. The dry matter production of leaves, stems and roots increased with EC values. The increasing salinity levels enhanced the nitrogen content but significant variations were beyond EC 4.0 as compared to control. The contents of N and Na were found to be increased with increasing salinity levels but those of P, K, Ca and Mg decreased. Catharanthus roseus could grow well up to EC 8.0 dS/m of water

[Durante la stagione delle piogge 1986-87 alla Research Farm Bichpuri del Raja Balwant Singh College, Agra (India), e' stato effettuato un esperimento per studiare la resa di Catharanthus roseus, irrigato con acqua a diversa salinita', variante da EC 2.4 a 20 dS/m. La produzione di sostanza secca di foglie, fusti e radici aumentava con EC 4 dS/m e sono state osservate notevoli riduzioni con valori piu' alti di EC. Livelli di salinita' crescenti hanno aumentato il contenuto di azoto, ma variazioni significative si manifestavano oltre EC 4.0 rispetto al valore di controllo. Si e' riscontrato che il contenuto di N e Na aumentavano con l'aumento dei livelli di salinita', mentre quelli di P, K, Ca e Mg diminuivano. Catharanthus roseus potrebbe crescere bene fino a EC 8.0 dS/m di acqua]
