Analysis of abscisic acid accumulation and its relationships with other physiological traits in maize (Zea mays L.) inbred lines grown under conditions of drought stress

إنجليزي. Abscisic acid (ABA) modulates stomatal aperture and is rapidly accumulated in response to water stress. Agronomically or genetically-induced modification of ABA accumulation has been indicated as a possible means to influence water use efficiency in crops. In the present research, 11 early- and 23 medium-maturity maize inbred lines were evaluated uder conditions of drought stress and characterized, at tassel emergence and pollen shed, as to the degree of response to drought stress (GSP-1 and GSP-2, respectively) and the ABA content (ABA-1 and ABA-2). Significant differences were detected among inbreds of each maturity group for GSP-1 and 2, pollen shed (AM), silking (AF), pollen-shed to silking-interval (PRO). ABA-1 was positively correlated with GSP-1, PRO, GSP-2 and ABA-2. ABA-2 was correlated with PRO and GSP-2, but only in the medium-maturity group. Inbred lines locally selected for tolerance to high plant showed low values of GSP-1 and 2 as well as of ABA-1 and 2

إيطالي. L'acido abscissico (ABA) regola l'apertura degli stomi ed e' rapidamente accumulato in risposta a stress da carenza idrica. Variazioni del livello di ABA, indotte con interventi agronomici o genetici, potrebbero influire sulla efficienza di utilizzazione delle risorse idriche. Nel presente studio, 11 linee pure di mais a ciclo precoce e 23 a ciclo medio sono state valutate in condizioni di carenza idrica e caratterizzate, alla comparsa del pennacchio ed all'antesimaschile, per il grado di reattivita' allo stress da siccita' (GSP-1 e GSP-2, rispettivamente) e per il contenuto in ABA (ABA-1 e ABA-2). Nell'ambito di ciascun gruppo di maturita', si sono riscontrate differenze significative tra linee per GSP-1 e 2, ABA -1 e 2, antesi maschile (AM), antesi femminile (AF) e proterandria (PRO). ABA-1 e' risultato correlato positivamente con GSP-1, PRO, GSP-2 e ABA-2 e' risultato correlato con PRO e GSP-2, ma solo nel gruppo a ciclo medio. Linee selezionate in loco per tolleranza ad elevate densita' hanno mostrato valori bassi per GSP-1 e 2 nonche' per ABA-1 e 2
