Glycerides of cottonseed oils from Egyptian and other varieties

Partial glyceride (mono- and diglycerides) compositions of fourteen cottonseed oil samples extracted from different varieties and origins have been reported as their trimethylsilyl ether (TMS) derivatives. Levels of monoglycerides varied between 0.1 and 0.4%, whereas the total amounts of diglycerides varied between 5.4 and 9.5%. The main monoglycerides corresponded to the acyl carbon number of C16 and C18, whereas the main diglycerides belonged to the acyl carbon numbers of C34 and C36 with small amounts of C32 and C38. Part of the partial glyceride content would be natural components due to incomplete biosynthesis of the triglycerides, whereas some will have resulted from post-harvest hydrolysis of triglycerides. Triglyceride compositions according to carbon number showed that cottonseed oil consisted mainly of C50, C52 and C54 triglycerides in comparison with other vegetable oils reflected the predominance of unsaturated C18 acids and the distribution of palmitic acid at the triglyceride 1-, and 3-positions conjuction with unsaturated C18 acid at the 2-position, in cottonseed oil triglycerides. As the C52 triglyceride content varied within a narrow range, it can be used as a guide to determine authenticity of cottonseed oil

Viene riportata la composizione gliceridica parziale (mono- e digliceridi) di 14 campioni di oli di cotone estratti da semi di diverse varieta' ed origine, nonche' i loro trimetilsilileteri derivati (TMS). le percentuali di monogliceridi variano dallo 0.1 allo 0.4% mentre il contenuto totale di digliceridi varia dal 5.4 al 9.5%. I principali monogliceridi erano rappresentati da C16 e C18 ed i digliceridi da C34 e C36 con piccole quantita' di C32 e C38. Parte del contenuto di digliceridi parziali erano componenti naturali dovuti all'incompleta biosintesi dei trigliceridi ma una parte derivava dall'idrolisi dei trigliceridi dopo il raccolto. I trigliceridi erano rappresentati principalmente da C50, C52 e C54. L'alta percentuale di trigliceridi C52 nell'olio di cotone rispetto ad altri oli vegetali testimonia la predominanza di acidi C18 insaturi e la distribuzione dell'acido palmitico nelle posizioni 1 e 3 del trigliceride accanto a C18 insaturo in posizione 2. Poiche' il contenuto di trigliceride C52 varia entro stretti limiti, questo puo' essere usato come guida per determinare la genuinita' dell'olio di cotone
