In 1987-1989 in maize hybrids CE-265 and CE-325 following parameters were evaluated: plant density per area unit, the content of dry matter in spikes and their yields at 4 sowing dates (one early and three late dates). The significant decrease of the number of plants particularly in 1987 at early sowing date resulted in the yield decrease. At the same time the average yield in the observed period was decreased too. In the average of the given years both hybrids gave significantly higher yields at early sowing date. In comparison with the 1st sowing date the other yields fell by 17.9-18 percent, 6.5-8.8 percent and 24.9-34.7 percent, resp.. The differences among hybrids in the content of dry matter in spikes fluctuated in the individual years. In the average of the years and sowing dates the hybrid CE-265 contained by 10.5 percent more of dry matter than CE-325.
