The effects of five vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi on growth and mycorrhizal formation in young apple trees grown in apple replant disease soil were investigated. Two mycorrhizal fungi, Glomus intraradices and Glomus spec. D13 increased total shoot length and the number of shoots per rootstock. Apple rootstocks were obtained from a nursery and had already been moderately colonized by indigenous mycorrhizal fungi. However, mycorrhizal formation was increased markedly after inoculation
