Investigations on the migration of the predatory mite Phytoseiulus persimilis Athias-Henriot (Acarina: Phytoseiidae). 3. The influence of nutrition of Phytoseiulus persimilis Athias-Henriot (Acarina: Phytoseiidae) on its movement around the edge and its time of residence in colonies of Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acarina: Tetranychidae) with a lack of food and the influence of gravitation on the migration of P. persimilis

Test of oilfactory orientation (Koehler 1990) showed that the movementaround the edge of a paper disk is essential for the orientation of Phytoseiulus persimilis during the search of Tetranychus urticae- colonies. That is wy influence of nutrition on the movement around the edge was investigated. Hungry P. persimilis-females move around the edge of the leaf for shorter periods of time and stayed in the T. urticae-colonies longer than such females with normal nutrition. When P. persimilis-females have the possibility to move upward, they have a greater tendency to leave T. urticae-colonies with a lack of food than females which can only move downward. If there is no opportunity for P. persimilis-females to leave. T. urticae colonies with a lack of food in an upward direction, time of residence in the colony, the number prey eggs eaten and the number of P. persimilis-eggs increase. Migration of P. persimilis depens on the habitus of plants
