Some biochemical and physiological changes in the young cucumber plant - Pythium oligandrum (plant-mycoparasite) system were investigated. Results were compared with the changes in the host-pathogen system (young cucumber plant - Pythium ultimum). The uptake and efflux of phosphate in roots, phosphorus metabolism, IAA content, weight of aboveground parts and roots and leaf area were determined. The results can be summarized as follows: - the plants react to the presence of the mycoparasite that colonizes the roots - plant responses to the presence of the mycoparasite and the mycoparasite and the phytopathogen have the same trend for a certain period - in the next period, plant responses to the presence of the mycoparasite or phytopathogen are different: stimulation of growth, phosphorus metabolism, and considerable inhibition after inoculation of plants with phytopathogen were determined
