An experiment was conducted to determine whether a GnRH agonist could be used in conjunction with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) to induce a superovulatory response with production of normal embryos, using 24 Welsh Mountain ewes. The results showed that treatment with GnRH agonist is consistent with the production of viable embryos in the ewe and indicate that preovulatory LH pulses are not essential for oocyte maturation and early embryo development. Progesterone pretreatment also was not essential for production of viable embryos.
