An experiment was carried out in a heavy clay soil from Lengkong, Sukabumi, West Java, from January to April 1990. Another experiment was carried out in light clay soil from Citayam, Bogor, West Java, from March to June 1990. Peanut varieties Gajah, Pelanduk, Banteng, Kelinci and Badak were used as sub plots, while the main plots were cow manure rates (0 and 5 t/ha). Inorganic fertilizers were used at the rate of 50 kg Urea, 250 kg TSP and 100 kg KCl/ha. respectively. The plot sizes were 3 m x 4 m and peanut seeds were dibbled at 40 cm x 10 cm spacing. Plant growth, yield component and yield of peanut on heavy clay (Lengkong) were poorer or lower than on light clay (Citayam). Plant growth, yield component and yield of Kelinci and Badak were better than varieties Gajah, Pelanduk and Banteng on light clay soil, however on heavy there were no differences among varieties. The P contents of peanut on heavy and light clay soil were not different. The nutrient uptakes of N, P and K in seed of peanut on heavy clay were lower than that on light clay. The nutrient uptake of N, P and K in seed of Kelinci and Badak was higher than that of Gajah, Pelanduk and Banteng.
