Bacterial wilt of groundnuts is economically important only in China, Indonesia and Uganda. Sources of resistance have been reported from these areas, and progress has been made in the development of resistant cultivars in China and Indonesia. However, studies in China have highlighted the existence of strains and phenotypes in the pathogen. Research is needed into stability and durability of resistance to Pseudomonas solanacearum and other yield-reducing diseases. Crop rotation with feasible root crops is also a useful means of reducing disease levels in humid tropical areas. An integrated disease management approach including resistant cultivars, rotations, intercropping, and sanitation, is indicated.
