A number of molluscicide bait preparations were made and tested for their preference by the garden snails, A. fulica, and their effectiveness was measured in terms of food intake, feeding indices and toxicity responses induced. The results showed that snails preferred mashed vegetables in agar (jellied form) and mashed vegetables mixed with starch compared to baits consisting of fresh vegetables alone. Bran baits mixed with boiled water extracts of rice and vegetables were preferred to bran. However, the keeping qualities of bran baits in biscuits form were better than in jellied or agar form. Baits containing metaldehyde were consumed more than similar baits containing copper sulphate, but increasing the amount of poison in the baits reduced its attractiveness and its consumption by the snails, which in turn, would reduce toxicity effects of the molluscicides
