Effect of stage of maturity on chemical and nutritional characteristics of Dactylis glomerata hay

إنجليزي. Chemical and nutritional properties of three Dactylis glomerata hays, obtained by cutting the grass at early vegetative (L), early heading (IS) and early bloom (IF) were evaluated. The CP content of L hay was 20.0% DM and decreased significantly in the latter products according to a linear component (IS = 12.1% and IF = 10.0% d.m.). Voluntary DM intake measured in wethers (64.9+-7.5 kg LW) was higher feeding L hay (58.8 g/kg LW sup(.75)), whereas there was no difference between IS and IF (49.9 vs 52.8 g/kg LW sup(.75)) likely because of the similar NDF content of these hays (67.8 vs 66.0% s.s.). The OM digestibility (OMD) was reduced by the advancing maturity of the forage. However this effect was not significant due to the large animal variation. On the contrary, a significant negative effect of maturity stage on OMD was found by using three different in vitro methods

إيطالي. Sono state valutate le caratteristiche chimiche e nutrizionali di tre fieni di Dactylis glomerata ottenuti sfalciando il foraggio a: levata (L), inizio spigatura (IS) e inizio fioritura (IF). Il fieno L ha evidenziato un elevato contenuto proteico (20.0% s.s.) che e' diminuito nei due prodotti ottenuti piu' tardivamente (IS=12.1 e IF=10.0%) secondo una componente lineare significativa. Il consumo volontario, valutato su ovini (64.9+-7.5 kg PV), e' stato maggiore somministrando il fieno L (58.8 g/kg PV sup(0.75)). Non si sono invece riscontrate differenze tra IS e IF (49.9 vs 52.8 g/kg PV sup(0.75)), probabilmente in relazione al loro simile contenuto di NDF (67.8 vs 66.0% s.s.). La digeribilita' della sostanza organica (DSO), pur diminuendo in funzione della maturita' del foraggio, non ha raggiunto la significativita' statistica a causa dell'elevata variabilita' animale. La stima della DSO con tre diverse metodiche in vitro ha invece evidenziato una significativa riduzione al procedere dello stadio vegetativo della graminacea
