Effect of diets containing different amounts of crude fiber and energy on the reproductive performances of rock partridges (Alectoris graeca)

Three homogeneous groups of rock partridges (Alectoris graeca) were fed, starting respectively from 30, 70 and 100 days of age, a diet containing increasing crude fiber levels (7.8%, 11.7% and 15%) and, consequently, decreasing energy content. A group fed a basic low crude fiber level (6.5%) diet was the control group. Reproductive performances were made worse by feeding high crude fiber diets starting from 30 and 70 days of age. The number of chicks produced per couple was on the contrary improved by feeding rock partridges high crude fiber diets starting from 100 days of age. This was due to the improvements of the mean egg production and of the hatchability of the eggs

Tre gruppi omogenei di coturnici (Alectoris graeca) sono stati alimentati, a partire rispettivamente da 30, 70 e 100 giorni di vita, con razioni a livelli progressivamente crescenti (7.8%, 11.7% e 15%) di fibra grezza e con contenuto energetico conseguentemente decrescente. Fungeva da controllo un gruppo alimentato con un mangime a basso tenore in fibra grezza (6.5%). La sostituzione del mangime tradizionale con quelli a piu' alto tenore in fibra a 30 o 70 giorni di vita sembra danneggiare le performances riproduttive. La sostituzione a 100 giorni sembra invece migliorare la produzione di pulcini per coppia, per il doppio effetto migliorativo sulla produzione media di uova e sulla schiudibilita' delle stesse
