Determination of deuterium concentrations for the study of water circulation in Danube Delta

Deuterium distribution from surface waters offers the possibility to determine the horizontal stratification of waters, as well as the determination of preferential directions of flows. The data include a part of the results obtained in 1993 from Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve area. The area the results are referring to is delimited by Sulina channel at north, by Sf. Gheorghe channel at south, by Caraorman village at west and by the Black Sea to the east. The isolines for CD and Delta Dens values permitted to make some suppositions referring to the preferential directions of water flows in two different situations (momentary directions in September and prevalent directions between March and October). The convergence of the flow directions in the western area of the Red Lake is clear. This convergence is the same with the zone where an important sand deposition occurs.
