Leaf morpho-physiological parameters as screening techniques for drought stress tolerance in Triticum durum Desf

إنجليزي. Six Triticum durum cultivars (Appulo, Adamello, Capeiti 8, Karel, Creso and Latino) were grown under field conditions at two different water regimes, i.e. well watered and water stressed. Drought tolerance measured by drought susceptibility index (S) indicated that Capeiti 8 and Appulo had the highest stress tolerance. Relative Water Content (RWC), stomatal resistance (SR) and leaf area (LA) showed differences between stressed and well watered plants. Genotypic variability was observed for RWC, water potential, osmotic potential at full turgor, turgid weight/dry weight ratio (TW/DW), leaf area, and specific leaf weight (SLW), cv Capeiti showing the lowest RWC, water potential and osmotic potential at full turgor values. Analysis of correlations between leaf water status, morphological parameters and susceptibility index showed that high stress tolerance was associated with reduced water potential, RWC, osmotic potential at full turgor and LTS. These parameters appear to be promising as screening characters for drought tolerance, mainly considering their fast and easy analysis

[In condizioni di campo diverse, a due diversi regimi idrici, cioe' ben irrigate e in condizioni di siccita', sono state coltivate sei cultivar di Triticum durum (Appulo, Adamello, Capeiti 8, Karel, Creso e Latino). La tolleranza alla siccita', misurata per mezzo dell'indice di suscettibilita' alla siccita' (S), ha indicato che Capeiti 8 e Appulo hanno mostrato la piu' elevata tolleranza allo stress. La variabilita' genotipica e' stata osservata quanto a RWC, potenziale idrico, potenziale idrico 100, proporzione peso turgido/peso secco (TW/DW), superficie fogliare e peso fogliare specifico (SLW) e la cv Capeiti ha mostrato i valori piu' bassi di RWC, potenziale idrico 100 e LTS.
