إنجليزي. The present work concerns the quanti-qualitative characteristics of the grass left standing by pasturing sheep, the quantity of forage and the F.U. actually utilized by grazing. This study completes the research on "sheep grazing in the forest", that the Department of animal production of University of Bari has been carrying out for several years. The herbage samples harvested after pasturing over a five-year period 1980-1984 in spring and autumn near "CAVONE" pastoral-forest farm on the plain near Spinazzola (BA), regard three experimental plots indicated by the letters A (natural pasture), B (young grazing pine-wood), D (adult grazing pine-wood) and were used to assess the unutilized dry and green matter as well as the chemical composition and feeding value of the residual forage. The amount of F.U. utilized was determined by substracting the residual feeding value from that of product, making it possible to quantify the number of animals that one ha of land can sustain. A young pine-wood (B) with 4.25 heads/ha in spring and 1.75 heads/ha in autumn (for 100 days/season) shows results similar to those for natural pasture but higher than those for adult pine-wood. The average annual number of sheep/ha, superior to one in the young pine-wood and inferior to one in adult pine-wood, constitutes a useful indication for the rational exploitation of forest undergrowth in the hilly Murgia area around Bari

Il lavoro considera gli aspetti quanti-qualitativi dell'erba rifiutata dagli ovini al pascolo, la quantita' di foraggio e le U.F. effettivamente utilizzate con il pascolamento ed integra la ricerca relativa al "pascolo ovino in foresta" che da anni il Dipartimento di produzione animale dell'Universita' di Bari sta svolgendo. I campioni di foraggio, raccolti dopo il pascolamento e nelle stagioni primaverili ed autunnali del quinquennio 1980-84 presso l'azienda silvo-pastorale "CAVONE" in agro di Spinazzola (BA), si riferiscono a tre tesi sperimentali indicate con le lettere A (pascolo nudo), B (pineta giovane pascolata), D (pineta adulta pascolata) e sono serviti per determinare la sostanza verde e secca non utilizzate, la composizione chimica e il relativo valore nutritivo del foraggio residuo. Ricavato il numero di U.F. utilizzate, sottraendo dal valore nutritivo del foraggio prodotto quello del residuo, e' stato determinato il carico ovino mantenibile
