An evaluation of different growth and yield models has led to the development of a hybrid model which produces more accurate estimates of growth and yield, while retaining compatibility between the stand parameters. Derived from the 'Australian' stand volume formula, this model includes stand age as an additional independent variable and uses residual basal area to incorporate the effect of thinning intensity. These features make the formula particularly applicable in plantation management.
