The activity of known hepatic enzymes (alcohol dehydrogenase, lactate dehydrogenase, malate dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and glutamate dehydrogenase as well as some other enzymes, as beta-galactosidase, urease and phenylalanine:ammonia lyase) in hepatopancreas of carp was studied. The enzymes suitable for preparative purposes were selected (malate dehydrogenase and lactate dehydrogenase). The activity of glutamate dehydrogenase was found to be on the border of the preparatively utilizable value and that of other enzymes seems to be very low. Surprisingly, low total activity was found even in the case of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, which is the enzyme necessary for the metabolism of sugars. The comparison of the result obtained with those published for shark, crab, crayfish and mollucs shows the similarity between those animal and warmblooded animals.
