Catching of insects on ponds by swimming yellow traps

The basic idea was to test whether swimming yellow traps, i.e., yellow-colored plates positioned several cm below the water surface, can contribute the nourishment of young fish by attracting insects. The experiments were carried out in summer 1986 and 1987 in the framework of a more comprehensive program. As expected, the greatest "Anflug" intensity during the study period occurred in July and August. The total weight of the 7631 insect caught in the yellow traps was 6.465 g vs. 0.687 for the 1168 individuals captured in the adjoining glass-bottomed trap. Large hymenopterans were virtually absent
