Ethylene gas burn of Washington navel oranges - a form of anthracnose induced by degreening and controlled by brushing or applying fungicides
1990
Wild, B.L. (New South Wales Agriculture and Fisheries, Gosford (Australia). Horticultural Postharvest Lab.)
Rind burn during degreening is not reduced simply by lowering ethylene concentrations, and is apparently due rather to stimulation of latent infections by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Treatment with benomyl, preferably at 50 deg. C, or washing over revolving brushes, is recommended.
