The ability of 243 does of known age and 509 of unknown age to rear fawns to rearing, given between 1 and 8 opportunities to do so, was observed. The proportion of deer failing to do so increased with increasing number of opportunities, but 94 percent failed no more than once. A small percentage of repeated failures showed postmortem disabilities ranging from salpingitis to cysts in the reproductive tract and vulval neoplasm.
