Fuminisins in sweet maize and grain maize from the Karlsruhe and Rheinland-Pfalz market
1995
Bresch, H. | Majerus, P. | Urbanek, M.
Fumonisins produced by fusaria spp. on maize are mycrotoxins causing different kind of illness in different animals and probably also in humans. Sweet corn grown mainly in Baden-Wuerttemberg and different corn products, primarily maize meal, has been analyzed. All products had been bought in groceries in Karlsruhe. Different corn products purchased in Rhineland-Palatinate were analyzed in Trier. While most products, sugar corn included, contained either no fumonisins, or quantities below 1000 ng/g, the corn products from one factory, processing maize from Italy, were contaminated considerably above this level. In view of these results regulations govering maximum admissable fumonisin quantities in maize seem necessary to protect consumers.
