Two oilseed rape (Brassica campestris var. toria) variety trials, namely preliminary observation nursery and coordinated variety trial were conducted at Lumle centre (1675m) in the winter of 1993/94 under rainfed bari land conditions. The objectives of the experiments were to identify suitable high yielding and oil containing varieties, diseases and insect tolerant varieties for the hills. Varieties were evaluated under RCBD blocked along the terrace. Two local germplasms from Eastern Nepal were found promising, they were Gope Tori from Siddakali-4 (Sankhuwasabha) and local tori from Ambung (Tehrathum) in observation nursery. Acc no. 31646 was good seed yielder in the CVT, although its crop duration was longer. No varietal differences were found for oil content in the CVT and the overall mean was 49.2+1.9. These entries will be promoted to other trials as appropriate in the years to come, however could not be included in 1994/95 because of lack of seed availability.
