Two field experiments on finger millet such as Farmers'Field Varietal Trial (FFVT) and Pre-production Varification Trial (PPVT) of comparing top dressing of 30 kg N/ha with farmers practice of maintaining soil fertility in various OR and OSR sites of LARC in Western Hills of Nepal. The major findings of the experiments were: In FFVT, a total of six varieties were evaluated at eight different sites altitude ranging from 650-2200m asl. Considering yield, yield components, phenology, stability analysis and farmers' reactions besides local, Kavre-1, GE-5175 and GE-5016 are promising varieties of finger millet in both intercrop and sole crop systems. In PPVT, Kavre-1 was found high yielder over farmers variety and use of nitrogen at 30 kg N/ha as top dressing out yielded farmers level of fertility management. Use of chemical fertilizer was also found highly economical. In IRD, Okhle-1, Kalobhunde and GE-5016 are lied by the farmers. But GE-002 (Mustang), GE-5180, GE-0018, and NE-1703-34 varieties were not prefered by the farmers across the low to high hills sites.
