Cost effectiveness of apple production comparing different planting densities

Investment and production costs of apple production with respect to plant densities of 2500, 5400 and 18000 trees/ha are calculated. In October 1995 (1 USD=125 SIT) investment costs of apple-tree orchard were 3.2 mio SIT/ha (2500), 4.7 mio SIT (5400) and 12.3 mio SIT/ha (18000). Production costs were covered at the following yields: 29,700 kg/ha (2500), 42,600 kg/ha (5400) or 102,000 kg/ha (18000).
