1994
Rubaihayo, P.R. | Makumbi, D. | Mukasa, S.B. (Makerere University, Kampala (Uganda) Department of Crop Science)
Severity of black sigatoka on 147 flowering banana clones was assessed over 2 year period under field inoculum as youngest leaf with streaks (YLWS), youngest spotted leaf (YSL) and number leaves without necrosis (NLWN). East African highland bananas and non East African bananas of AAA group were highly susceptible to black sigatoka. Some resistance was recorded in the AB and AAB cultivars with AAB cultivars expressing with the strongest resistance. Of the East African highland bananas, Nakawere and Nabisa showed appreciable resistance with Nabusa having the least foliar necrosis. Selected cultivars from all the genomic classes were assessed for their pulp and peel weights for two years and yield reduction of up to 47.6 was recorded with some highland cultivars
