Production of fast growing tree species in short rotation as chance for small scale forestry

In Bavaria we manage six experimental fields in different regions as pilot plantations to demonstrate this type of forestry and can prove its effectiveness despite some obstacles. There are also ecological advantages compared to agriculture. Chances for small scale, farm forestry in particular, lie in the easy establishment and extensive management in comparison to agriculture, and in early returns from production compared to classical high forests. Besides, reconversation to agriculture is no major obstacle.
