[4. International technical conference on plant genetic resources of the FAO 1996 in Germany - framework and national preparation]

إنجليزي. It is long time ago since people know about the rapid global extinction of species in the wild ecosystems caused by human activities. During the last years public awareness about the reduction of biological diversity within and between the cultivated species has grown. The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a central organization whose activities deal with the conservation and the sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture. The FAO supports the growing awareness on this problem and the activities in a lot of nations around the world and the coordination of these activities through an increased international cooperation. In 1996, FAO will carry out its 4th International Technical Conference on Plant Genetic Resources in Germany. This will act on the one hand as a continuation of the FAO-activities, but also as a part of implementation of the requirements of Rio (UNCED) 1992. After giving details of the whole context of the conference process the status quo of the national preparations is described

Nachdem der rapide, anthropogen beeinflusste, weltweite Artenrueckgang in natuerlichen Oekosystemen bereits seit langem bekannt ist, waechst seit einigen Jahren auch das Bewusstsein ueber die Gefaehrdung der inter- und vor allem der intraspezifischen Vielfalt in unseren Nutzpflanzen. Die Ernaehrungs- und Landwirtschaftsorganisation der Vereinten Nationen (FAO) setzt sich bereits seit Jahren fuer die Erhaltung und nachhaltige Nutzung der weltweit noch vorhandenen Vielfalt ein. Erreicht werden soll dieses Ziel durch eine Bewusstmachung der Problematik, eine Forcierung und Unterstuetzung nationaler Aktivitaeten in vielen Laendern der Erde und eine Koordination dieser Massnahmen durch eine verbesserte internationale Zusammenarbeit. Im Jahr 1996 wird die FAO in Deutschland ihre 4. Internationale Technische Konferenz ueber Pflanzengenetische Ressourcen durchfuehren. Dies geschieht als Fortsetzung der vielfaeltigen Aktivitaeten der FAO, aber auch als Umsetzung der im Verlaufe der UNCED-Konferenz in Rio 1992 formulierten und verabschiedeten Forderungen in Bezug auf diese Thematik. Nach Vorstellung der Rahmenbedingungen fuer die Konferenz wird im vorliegenden Bericht der Stand der nationalen Vorbereitungen dargestellt
