Frost hardiness of selected gene sources of the Vitis species was studied. In selected varieties the number of living eyes on single-bud cuttings and whole plant was recorded. Good frost hardiness was recorded in all studied must varieties, except new selection F-6. Among table varieties the best results were achieved by the Krystal variety. Greater damage was recorded in the Prim variety. In 1997 December temperatures fell below 22 centigrades. In must varieties great damage was recorded in the following new selections: Malverina, F-2, Laurot and Mi-5-70. New selection III-77-20 owerwintered relatively well. In table varieties those were strongly damaged whose parent varieties belong to proles orientalis subproles antasiatica. Crosses with Vitis amurensis overwintered relatively well: Krystal and Agat Donskoj. Good overwintering was also recorded in the new selection Jolanka and the variety Augustovskij.
