One of the emphases of Malaysian development policies since the 1970's has been the intensification of development projects in the rural areas. Among others, the rural development projects have been characterised by the participation of women, aimed at generating family income. This paper reports a study on women's income-generating projects in three districts of fast developing state of Selangor in Malaysia, and highlights accomplishment of women's projects for sustainable development. Data were collected from 54 women project participants using a set of structured questionnaires. The study shows that 55,5 % of projects were of food processing which used locally available raw materials; other projects were tailoring and various types of food-related businesses. The study also shows that women's projects had an impact on the village economy by increasing income above the poverty line among the housholds involved, providing employment to women and spouses, and encouraging involvement of women and spouses in the decisions and actions pertinent to project development.
