Root dynamics of forage crops [Festuca arundinacea, Hedysarum coronarium] in a hilly Mediterranean area [Basilicata]

إنجليزي. The response of the root system of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea, cv. Penna) and sulla (Hedysarum coronarium, Ascolano ecotype) to the environment in a hilly area of Basilicata was investigated. During the period of more intense growth water content and root lenght density (RLD) was determined in the soil layers deep 0-20, 20-40, and 40-60 cm. RLD was affected by air temperature, in the 0-40 soil layers. Roots in the 40-60 cm layer showed a higher sensitivity to water deficiency, with an increased growth corresponding to the incoming dry season. Aging coicided with a reduction of root dimension and a lower sensitivity to temperature of sulla, as shown by the different reactivity of plants of different ages in the same year. In both years, tall fescue had a higher root density compared to that of sulla, with maximum values of 12.68 cm cm*[-3], compared to 9.28 cm cm*[-3], on average, on the 0-60 cm profile. Penna) e di sulla (Hedysarum coronarium L. ecotipo Ascolano) ai fattori ambientali e' stata studiata in un'area interna della collina lucana. Nel periodo di maggiore attivita' vegetativa e' stata determinata l'umidita' del terreno nel profilo 0-60 cm e la densita' radicale (metodo Newman) negli strati di terreno profondi 0-20, 20-40 e 40-60 cm. Quest'ultima ha presentato, per entrambe le specie e per lo strato di terreno profondo 0-40 cm, variazioni dovute agli andamenti termici. Per contro, nello strato profondo 40-60 cm e' stata rilevata una maggiore sensibilita' alla carenza idrica, manifestatasi con un incremento della densita' radicale al sopraggiungere della stagione secca. Con l'invecchiamento le due specie hanno manifestato la riduzione delle dimensioni dell'apparato radicale; la sulla inoltre ha mostrato una minore sensibilita' agli abbassamenti termici, data la differente reattivita' di colture di eta' diversa nella stessa annata
