The survey suggests ways of improving fish farming in the Economic Planning Areas 11 and 12 of the Lilongwe Rural Development Project in LADD. It identifies the main socioeconomic constraints to fish farming such as lack of advice; size of available dimba land; jealousy in form of theft and pond poisoning; lack of fishing nets; and predation especially by katumbu. It makes recommendations for promoting fish farming in the study area which include: intensification of adult literacy programmes; organising training for farmers; provision of credit facilities to fish farmers; introduction and encouragement of women to active participation in fish farming; provision of incentives to fish farmers; and intorduction of fisheries personnel in the Agricultural Development Division
