Biosynthesis and metabolism of indolyl-3-acetic acid in carrot cell suspension cultures
1996
Michalczuk, L.
Production of endogenous hormone is stimulated by exogenous auxin - both in isolated hypocotyls and in carrot cells cultivated in media supplemented with exogenous auxin an increase of indolyl-3-acetic acid (IAA) content was observed, whereas transfer of those cultures to auxin-free medium caused fast decrease of endogenous auxin level. Experiments with labelled precursors proved that cultured carrot cells auxin is synthetized by the least two different pathways. In one of them a precursor of IAA is tryptophan, whereas in the second biosynthesis is not mediated by this amino acid. Endogenous indolyl-3-acetic acid is actively metabolised in carrot cells
