Recent advances in biotechnology have ushered a new area for the genetic improvement of forest tree species. However, in majority of classes, micropropagation has been carried out by employing juvenile plants. It is expected that future research in biotechnology will provide new insight into (1) the mechanism of maturation and rejuvenation, (2) directed gene transfer by innovative new technology, (3) molecular mechanisms of differentiation of cells into tissues and organs, (4) genome structure of the trees
