1997
Hickman, C.A.
This paper reviews the policy response of the federal government set-forth in the Endangered Species Act (ESA) to increasing concerns on species extinctions, examines those provisions of the ESA that are of key importance in terms of providing protection for domestic species and illustrates how the scope of these provisions has been defined and clarified through both administrative regulations and court decisions. The paper identifies and briefly describes the major policy options that are being debated within the United States in connection with current Congressional efforts to amend the ESA.
