Economic impact of forest fires
1997
Winkler, I. (Ljubljana Univ. (Slovenia). Biotechnical Fac., Forestry Dept.)
Forest fires in Slovenia account for more than 25 of all open fires. They generally take up small areas. They greatly reduce values of forest trees, and hinder implementing of ecological and social functions of forests. Economic impact of forest fires has to be comprehensively evaluated and the consequences for forest owners and timber consumers as well as for society have to be taken into account. Economic impact of forest fires can be offset by means of effective preventive activities and also through fire insurance
