Establishing the differences in the upper stand height between the stands of unmixed and mixed type

Difference between the stand top heights of the largest trees in unmixed and mixed stands has been analysed by covariance. Analysis comprised beech and spruce trees in Abieti-Fagetum, Hacquetio-Fagetum and Blechno-Fagetum sites. The data were taken in permanent sample plots in 1990-95 in the Lju-blja-na Forest Management Region tha covers 70.000ha of forests (0,05 ha/plot). Height of the tree with the second largest diameter in the plot has been used as an approximation of the top height. The covariance excludes the impact of the mean basal area diameter, tree density and growing stock. The analysis has not proven statistically significant differences
