Influence of Semperfresh on storage of three apple cultivars grown without chemical protection

Fruits of 2 cultivars resistant to apple-scab (Venturia inaequalis) - Resista and Selena and 1 cultivar tolerant to this disease - Nabella, harvested in the orchard never treated with fungicides were stored both in a cold store at 2-3 deg C and in a cellar with the initial temperature 9-12 deg C. The main experimental variable was their treatment with a coating preparation Semperfresh. After application of Semperfresh the direct fruit weight loss (caused by transpiration and respiration) was on the average of all variants reduced by 1.3%. This effect was approximately the same with all the three cultivars and the both ways of storage, although it was more pronounced with cv. Nabella than with cv. Selena. The preparation did not have any unambiguous influence on flesh firmness, on the content of soluble solids and taste characteristics of fruits.
