Lysozyme activity in blood serum was determined in 87 sows of Polish Large White (PLW), in 10 boars (5 PLW and 5 Polish Landrace) and in their offspring - 436 PLW piglets and 405 crossbreds; 15, 30 or 35 days old. It was noticed that lysozyme activity in blood serum of boars was higher than in sows and piglets. A considerable stability of enzyme activity in blood serum of sows from 15 to 30 day of lactation was observed. However, in blood serum of piglets, a statistically significant increase of this enzyme appeared with aging. The estimated value of the coefficient of heritability for the lysozyme activity of the crossbred and pure breed pigs amounted to 0.095 and 0.305, resp. It was observed that lysozyme activity in piglets was determined significantly by the level phenotype expression of this trait, particularly in mothers.
