Four varietal improvement activities were carried out under this project at five different agroclimatic conditions of Nepal during 1997/98, wheat season. These varietal improvement research activities comprised of two screening nurseries namely Nepal Rainfed Nursery and Nepal Advanced Lines and two varietal trials namely Initial Varietal Trial and Coordinated Varietal trial. NRN and NAL were distributed for testing genotypes in different agroclimatic locations. IETs and CVTs were distributed to three and five research stations. Eighteen genotypes from NRN and twenty six genotypes from NAL were selected for further evaluation and some of them for testing in IET-MHH. Eight genotypes namely NL 844, NL 847, NL 853, WK 580, BL 1755 and BL 1813 were selected from IET for further testing in CVT-MHH. On the basis of quantitative traits seven genotypes were selected from CVT. Among them NL 769, NL 810 and WK 831 have been found promising for further evaluation in FFT-MHH and rest will be retained in CVTs during 1998/99 wheat season.
