Competitive forestry within the policy of tomorrow
1998
Krott, M.
In the future forestry can keep up competitivness only by solving the problems of the protection and multiple use of the forest better then any other profession. Instruments for problem solving are discussed. The silviculture techniques can contribute most to the problem solving by integrating all uses including nature conservation. The political impact of the planning models could be enlarged by an improved ecological basis and by better economical rational. Forestry institutions can gain influence by active networking. Finally forestry institutions and programs have to be aware of the change within the forest owners. Marked oriented forest enterprises with strong economical goals are forming one type. Another type are the new urban forest owners, who are an increasing group in Germany. They do not respond to the traditional incentives oriented toward wood production. Forestry programs will be accepted only if they give answers to the high ecological values of the urban forest owners.
