Studies on variation of turkey egg shell characteristics and their relation with hatchability
1998
Mroz, E.
The studies concerned the most frequent changes observed on the egg shell surface in five different turkey strains. The relation between egg shell quality and incubation results (fertilization, early and late embryo mortality and poult hatchability) was analysed. The correlation between the percentage of those eggs and the above-mentioned incubation indices was examined as well. Six types of changes were noted on the shell surface, i.e.: swellings, hollows, folds, white or dark spots and lack of pigment. As a result of the research, two egg shell characteristics, i.e. matting and whiteness were regarded as defect. All the other shell characteristics do not disqualify hatching eggs, as their effect on incubation results and mortality of turkey embryos in much less significant
