An experiment of combined applications of glyphosate and mechanical control on weeds and cotton had been carried out at experimental field of Sub Balai Penelitian Tembakau dan Tanaman Serat Bajeng, started on February until July, 1992. The experiment consist of nine treatment combined application of glyphosate and mechanical control, arranged in randomized block design. The result of experiment indicated that application of glyphosate on upland under no-tillage system effectively controlled weeds. Combined applications of glyphosate, 1440 g/ha at 7 days before planting (dbp) + glyphosate 960 g/ha followed by locally mechanical control in the cotton rows at 45 days after planting (dap) was the most effective way suppressing the growth of weeds, so it's had a positive effect on cotton growth, increasing yield component, cotton yield, and net income
