Response to artificial infection of ears with isolate 7710 of Fusarium culmorum was evaluated in 23 (1996-1999) and 35 (1998-1999) winter wheat cultivars (lines) with different degrees of resistance and origins. The analyses of variance revealed significant differences for cultivars and years. Relatively lower, but statistically significant in all traits, were cultivar x year interaction mean squares. The ranking of genotypes in different years was similar for symptom reaction (SH) and AUDPC (area under the disease progress curve). SH and AUDPC were in every year significantly correlated with thousand grain weight and grain weight per ear after infection. For these yield traits highly significant correlations (r0.9) were found between measurements in infected variant and reductions obtained from comparison with uninfected control variant, which indicates the possibility to evalute in these types of experiments the data from infected variant and lower the costs of tests.
